'Star Wars: Episode VII' to Film in U.K.

The next movie, directed by J.J. Abrams, will hit theaters in 2015.

Lucasfilm announced Friday that the next Star Wars movie will be filmed in the U.K.

All six previous Star Wars movies have filmed in the U.K., including Elstree, Shepperton, Leavesden, Ealing and Pinewood Studios.

"We've devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I'm thrilled that returning to the U.K. for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that," said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, in a statement. "Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the U.K. with films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it's very exciting to be heading back."

Representatives from Lucasfilm had a London meeting with George Osborne, chancellor of the exchequer, in establishing a pact to produce Star Wars in the U.K.

"I am delighted that Star Wars is coming back to Britain. Today's announcement that the next Star Wars film will be shot and produced in the U.K. is great news for fans and our creative industries," Osborne said in a statement.

Star Wars: Episode VII, scheduled for a 2015 release, will be directed by J.J. Abrams. Michael Arndt will write the screenplay. The sixth and seventh Star Wars installments are expected to hit theaters in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Disney promete una película nueva de 'Star Wars' a partir de 2015 y hasta 2019

El presidente de Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn, ha anunciado que su compañía estrenará una nueva película al año basada en el universo Star Wars a partir de 2015 y hasta 2019, de forma que se intercalen los títulos de la siguiente trilogía con dos filmes independientes centrados en personajes de la saga. Horn dio a conocer los planes de distribución de esos cinco filmes en el marco de CinemaCon, la conferencia anual de la Asociación Nacional de Propietarios de Salas de Cine que se está celebrando en Las Vegas, en Nevada, según informó Los Angeles Times. Disney controla la franquicia Star Wars desde que compró a su creador, el cineasta George Lucas, su productora Lucasfilm en octubre de 2012 por 4.000 millones de dólares. La compañía del ratón Mickey confirmó desde el primer momento su intención de dar continuidad a las historias de la popular saga de ciencia ficción con una nueva trilogía, cuyo primer capítulo dirigirá J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) y llegará a la gran pantalla en 2015. Horn confirmó que los episodios VIII y IX de la saga se estrenarán en años alternos, el primero en 2017 y el segundo en 2019, mientras que en 2016 y 2018 verán la luz dos producciones que tratarán sobre la vida de alguno de los protagonistas de los filmes. Disney aún no ha revelado qué personajes tendrán su propia película, aunque los rumores apuntan a Yoda y Han Solo como opciones más probables.

Los Ángeles (EE.UU.), 20 mar (EFE).- El septuagenario actor Harrison Ford ha confirmado que su regreso a la saga "Star Wars" es más que probable aunque no está cerrado aún, según declaró a un medio local de Chicago en un homenaje que le rindió esta semana la revista Michigan Avenue.

Los Ángeles (EE.UU.), 20 mar (EFE).- El septuagenario actor Harrison Ford ha confirmado que su regreso a la saga "Star Wars" es más que probable aunque no está cerrado aún, según declaró a un medio local de Chicago en un homenaje que le rindió esta semana la revista Michigan Avenue.

Ford atendió brevemente antes del evento al canal de televisión local WGN-TV que hoy ha publicado en su página web la entrevista.

"Creo que es casi cierto", contestó el intérprete cuando fue preguntado sobre si finalmente se produciría un reencuentro en la pantalla de los protagonistas de la primera trilogía de "Star Wars" para la anunciada séptima entrega que verá la luz en 2015.

"Lo estoy deseando", añadió Ford, que encarnó por primera vez al mercenario Han Solo en la conocida saga de George Lucas cuando tenía 35 años, en "Star Wars" (1977).

Ford repitió como Solo en "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980), un año antes de convertirse en Indiana Jones ("Raiders of the Lost Ark", 1981) y dos antes de ser el expolicía Rick Deckard cazador de replicantes en "Blade Runner" (1982).

La última vez que el actor hizo de Han Solo en la gran pantalla fue para "Return of the Jedi" (1983).

Su regreso, largamente especulado, "no está aún en la bolsa" según expresó Ford en Chicago.

"Pienso que sucederá", concluyó.

Carrie Fisher (princesa Leia) confirmó a principios de marzo que sí estará en la próxima entrega de "Star Wars" que dirigirá J.J. Abrams, y George Lucas comentó después que las negociaciones con Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) y Ford estaban avanzadas antes de que vendiera su productora Lucasfilm a Disney en 2012.

George Lucas Says Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford Are in the ‘Final Stages of Negotiation’

It feels like a day doesn't go by without some quote, rumor, or speculation that Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford will return for the next set of Star Wars movies. Earlier this week, Fisher said "yes," only to have her publicist say it was just a joke. But now the latest word comes from arguably the most reliable source: George Lucas. In Bloomberg Businessweek, in a long piece about Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, the man himself let this slip: “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison — or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation." He quickly realized his misstep: “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then, trying to cover up: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.” Nice try, George. There's no way in this galaxy or one far, far away that those three would just shrug their shoulders and pass on this.

Carrie Fisher Confirms She’ll Be Back For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Slowly but surely, the original cast of Star Wars is announcing their return to the sequel. Actress Carrie Fisher has now confirmed that she’ll be back as Princess Leia in Star Wars VII.
In an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated, Fisher was asked about the franchise:

“Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?”
Fisher responded with a very simple “Yes.”

When asked how she envisioned her character, she said:
“Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home… I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

Fisher is not the first actor to confirm their participation in the new movie. A few weeks ago, Mark Hamill revealed that he’s at a stage where “they want us to go in and meet with Michael Ardnt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm.”

Though Harrison Ford hasn’t confirmed his part in the movie himself, it’s almost a given that he’s part of the “us” Hamill refers to in his announcement (seen above). Our very own El Mayimbe got the scoop from credible sources that Ford would be reprising his role as Han Solo… we’re just waiting for the actor to say it out loud. If Fisher and Hamill are onboard, then Ford must also be in the mix.

Star Wars Episode VII is slated for a tentative 2015 release date.
